Level 2B Nonviolent Communication

8 sessions of 3 hours

Level 2B is suitable for participants who have already completed a basic course in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with at least 24 instructional hours. In this intermediate course, you will delve deeper into applying the principles of Nonviolent Communication. You can take Level 2A before or after 2B. During the sessions, there will be ample opportunity to bring in your own situations, and you will also gain a deeper understanding of all aspects of the communication model. Between sessions, you will practice skills with other participants and receive reading materials and homework.

Throughout the 8 sessions, we will work on making NVC sound more natural, refining empathy, and practicing themes such as anger, guilt, and shame. We will likely have sessions on the following topics, although the syllabus is flexible:

  • Translating judgments: roots and opposites
  • Loving the Inner Critic
  • Transforming anger
  • The educator and the chooser
  • Dealing with demand energy
  • Deepening contact in conflict
  • Screaming in giraffe
  • Cleaning up the mess
  • Giving and receiving appreciation

This program offers you the opportunity to strengthen your Nonviolent Communication skills and develop a deeper understanding of the various aspects of this communication model.

Format

Groups are intimate with a maximum of 12 participants so there is ample opportunity to bring in your own situations during the sessions and to receive guidance and feedback from me. Sessions consists of exchanging empathy, sharing in the group, learning new material, observing and working with me on your cases and working in small groups.

Between sessions, you receive reading materials and practice exercises, and are invited to work with fellow participants. The average time commitment outside the sessions is about one hour per session — for example, reading or practicing with a peer.
