Heart in School

Shifting the focus from correcting to connecting. Tailor-made training for teachers and teams, which focuses on a heart-based or relationship-based educational model. This model can be applied in all levels of education from pre-school to university. Courses are also available in using the No Fault Zone game, a mediation tool used for people of all ages. I speak both English and Dutch.

Heart in Communication is registered with the Dutch CRKBO (Centraal Register Kort Beroepsonderwijs) as a recognized educational institution. This means that all my courses and services are exempt from VAT under Dutch tax law.

Cordelia worked well to slow the group down so the heart space could be felt. I think this is key. She’s good at creating a safe space, and supports this by reframing sentences and questions in an NVC way. I felt comfortable and connected during the course.

Life-enriching education

Life-enriching Education puts relationships first. In order to create safe and effective learning environments and teacher teams, it is vital to have a compassionate form of relating to one another in mutually respectful ways. This means working towards a “power with” rather than a “power over” model, where all individuals experience being heard.

The benefits of putting relationships first are:

  • More cohesive teams
  • More cooperative students
  • More understanding parents

By learning to put the Heart in Communication anyone working with young people can begin to shift the focus from correcting to connecting.

Mediation in schools

Conflicts happen regularly at schools. I am an experienced mediator with people starting from age 4. Since 2016 at my own school in Amsterdam and in other schools throughout the Netherlands, I come to support teachers and students find ways to reconnect after conflict.

For support during mediation, I use the No Fault Zone game, developed by Sura Hart and Victoria Kindle, and soon to be available for purchase on my website.  Actually, it’s not a game, but a tool for gaining clarity and understanding of the pain in the heart of the other and for receiving the listening each person needs to express the pain in their own hearts. Because of the feelings and needs cards provided by the “game” participants are able to  (re)connect with themselves. Images on the cards make it possible for chidren as young as 4 years old to do mediation. By switching places and sitting in the other person’s seat, they are able to see the other’s feelings and needs. Once both have expressed themselves, a (re)connection occurs.

I come to schools to do mediation with children, teachers and administrators and put the heart back into the communication.

I can also offer a course in using the No Fault Zone game so that school staff are able to implement this tool within their own schools. Contact me for more information.
