Foundation Course Nonviolent Communication
Learn and practice the basics of Nonviolent Communication in this 8-session course. (Should online registration pose any issues, please send me an email to register.)
About this course
This Foundation training in Nonviolent Communication consists of 8 sessions of 3 hours each. No prior training or background is required to participate.
The course offers an in-depth introduction to the core principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication, including:
- transforming judgments into connection with the underlying needs
- distinguishing observations from interpretations
- recognizing feelings and differentiating them from thoughts
- becoming aware of the needs underlying behavior
- understanding the difference between a request and a demand
- empathic listening — even in challenging situations
- speaking honestly in ways that foster connection
- using self-empathy as a foundation for resilience and presence
- expressing appreciation in ways that nourish
- supporting dialogue with care for everyone involved
The method was developed by Marshall Rosenberg and is used worldwide in settings such as therapy, mediation, education, healthcare, teams, and families.
Throughout the course, participants build a strong foundation in recognizing needs as universal human motivators, and in using language that supports collaboration, understanding, and connection.
Format
The training takes place in a small group (maximum 12 participants), with space for personal input and reflection. The sessions include live demonstrations, short theoretical introductions, hands-on practice in pairs and small groups, and group sharing. The guidance is attuned to participants’ real-life experiences.
Between sessions, participants receive reading materials and practice exercises, and are invited to work with fellow participants. The average time commitment outside the sessions is about one hour per session — for example, reading or practicing with a peer.
